Freedom Under Fire and Your Right to Homeschool (7)

Michael Smith Friday 1:00 - 2:00 pm Arbor Theater
After forty years of the legislature leaving homeschooling alone, in February, two bills were introduced that will impact the freedom to homeschool in California.  Mike Smith, President of HSLDA, will explore the content of the two bills, the problems they present for homeschoolers, the opposition put up by the homeschooling community, and current state of affairs.  Both bills are threatening because the ultimate goal of both appears to be to remove homeschooling from the private school exemption.  This would mean that homeschooling would be separated from the private school exemption, (which provides much freedom), to a separate defined category of exemption from public school attendance.  This could potentially mean health and safety screenings of children/parents; curriculum control; mandatory testing of students; and increased teacher qualification requirements. **This is a must attend for anyone concerned about the future of the legality of homeschooling in California.
